AIM Gallery

Picture
We envision a world where the creation and study of the arts enhance learning and community on all levels.
The Art Institute will organize art exhibitions and performances as well as conduct programs for the study, appreciation and creation of art across various cultures and perspectives of an ever-changing world.  Its activities will be integrated with the School’s art program and extend beyond to the community at large.
AIM envisions a space where the creation and study of the arts are fostered.  The gallery’s 12 foot walls and 3,297 square feet of exhibition space with moveable partitions enables the Gallery to accommodate artistic expressions of all scales and formats.  The Gallery will play an important role in the activities of AIM, i.e. the location of exhibits, performances, programs, and classes, many of which will be open to the Maplebrook students and to the surrounding area.

About Us
The Gallery
When the new Panichi saltwater swimming pool was completed on the Maplebrook campus in Nilsson Hall in June 2018, the former pool space began its renaissance and was renovated for the art gallery. AIM envisions a space where the creation and study of arts are fostered. The gallery's 12 ft walls and 3,297 sq ft of exhibition space with moveable partitions enables the Gallery to accommodate artistic expressions or all scales and formats. As such, the Gallery will play an important role in the activities of AIM, i.e. the location of exhibits, performances, programs, and classes, many of which will be open to the Maplebrook students as well as the community members in the surrounding area.

Bob Hill maintains studios in Goshen, Connecticut and Summit, New Jersey.  While he originally expressed his artistic energy through watercolor for over 25 years, in the last 25 years he has concentrated full-time on sculpture as his preferred art form. He has received his art education at The New York School for Visual Arts and The New Jersey Center of Visual Arts, and has attained the Elected Artist designation from The Kent Art Association, Kent, Connecticut. He is also a member of the Society of Connecticut Sculptors and The International Sculpture Center.
Through three-dimensional representation he portrays a dynamic range of emotional and spiritual feelings. His goal is to express visually the rhythm, drama and flow of human existence. Each work of sculpture evolves as it is created leading to discovery of unique forms. His abstract works are created from the basic shapes, lines and forms of the people and world around us.
He works in a variety of media including terracotta, plaster, fiberglass and steel. His sculpture has been exhibited in shows from Santa Fe to Connecticut and the New York area and he has won several awards for both realistic and abstract works.  His sculpture is also in several corporate and public collections.

Seth Ruggles Hiler  is influenced by the geography and communities of his surroundings, whether at home in Brooklyn, New York or on the road painting America.  He creates and records connections to people and place through his art.  Seth paints portrait series which reveal the character and identity of subjects, while sharing the collective spirit that quilts their individuality together.  He also focuses on painting the light and composition of nature and the American landscape.
Seth received a BFA from Syracuse University in 2002 and an MFA from the New York Academy of Art in 2005.  He teaches portraiture at the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan and is an Assistant Professor of Visual Arts at Bard High School Early College in Long Island City, Queens.  Seth is currently the Artist in Residence at Bushwick Abbey in Brooklyn where he helps to create and curate art projects bringing together local artists to build and strengthen connections in his community.
The artist’s work is exhibited in solo and group exhibitions at galleries and institutions throughout the northeast and beyond.  His solo exhibitions have included “NJ Emerging Artists Series: Seth Ruggles Hiler-Portraits” at the Monmouth Museum in Lincroft, NJ, “East of Orange” at Bergen College in NJ, “Faces of Sage” at the SAGE Center in Chelsea, “Portraits on Pine Street” at Gallery 73 See in Montclair, NJ, “STUDIO VISITS” at DUO Multicultural Center in Manhattan, as well as “Transitions” at the ANNEX Arts Space and “Painting America” at Throne in Brooklyn.
